Medical center ranks among 'Top 100' for women's health

A medical center is considered one of the best in the nation for women’s health.

Becker’s Hospital Review, which is a monthly publication focused on hospitals and health systems, said this week that Spectrum Health Medical Center in Grand Rapids is one its “Top 100 hospitals with great women’s health programs.”

The center is comprised of Butterworth Hospital, Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center and Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion.

Four other Michigan hospitals or medical centers appear in the Becker’s Hospital Review ranking: Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak; Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit; Munson Medical Center in Traverse City; and University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor.

Methodology

Becker’s said the organizations in the annual ranking all offer “outstanding health services geared toward women,” such as gynecology, obstetrics, women-focused heart care and women-focused cancer care, among other women’s health needs.

The Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team selected organizations based on clinical accolades and recognition for women’s health excellence from various health care groups or agencies: U.S. News & World Report; Healthgrades; CareChex; and UNICEF’s Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative.

Butterworth

Becker’s acknowledges Spectrum Health’s Butterworth Hospital as a “clinical leader in obstetrics and gynecology.”

The Family Birthplace at Butterworth delivers more than 7,000 babies each year and is connected to the Gerber Foundation Neonatal Center, a Level III neonatal intensive care unit, according to Becker’s.

Becker’s also cites several of Butterworth Hospital’s women’s health accolades: its designation as a Baby-Friendly facility by Baby-Friendly USA; being named one of the “Top 100” hospitals for women’s health in CareChex’s 2015 rankings; and being one of the “Top 50” hospitals for gynecology by U.S. News & World Report for 2014-15.
