Kay Burley Slammed For Calling Sexual Health Clinic "AIDS Clinic"

Sky News’s Kay Burley has been criticised for calling 56 Dean Street, an “AIDS Clinic”

Kay Burley has come under fire for calling 56 Dean Street, the NHS sexual health clinic, currently under fire for an email data breach, an “AIDS clinic.” 56 Dean Street is a sexual health clinic which is predominantly aimed at the gay community in London

Tweeting about the email breach of around 780 of the clinic’s HIV patients, Kay Burley said,

“Aids clinic which revealed patients names: Clearly this is completely unacceptable. We are urgently investigating how this has happened”

Slamming Ms. Burley, GMFA CEO Matthew Hodson corrected her by Tweeting,

“Because of the great work of @56deanstreet & others very few people now progress to #AIDS. @KayBurley please get your terminology right.”

Britain’s Got Talent’s Aaron Carty, who wowed judges with his Beyonce Experience, corrected the news anchor by saying,

“It’s actually a sexual health clinic @KayBurley @SkyNews @56deanstreet”

Speaking to THEGAYUK about the mistake, a spokesperson for the clinic said,

“We can confirm that due to an administrative error, a newsletter about services at 56 Dean Street was sent to an email group rather than individual recipients.

We have immediately contacted all the email recipients to inform them of the error and apologise. Any concerned patients can call 020 3315 9555 and 020 3315 9594.”

Men's health fair to offer new screening

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) –

Dr. Bob Warner, a surgeon with Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, will add a new perspective to health screenings for the annual Men’s Health Fair.

“He is going to be offering a free vascular wellness screening,” Shay Willis, director of Marketing and Public Relations said. “It’s for carotid and aortic aneurysms. There is going to be limited space available. The test takes about 15 minutes. So if you’re interested and wanting more information, call 870-239-8107.”

Blood glucose, cholesterol screenings, blood pressure checks, weight and nutrition information will be available at the heath fair happening Thursday, Sept. 3, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Hopefully we can catch anybody that may work in a factory, normally their shift is 7 to 3,” Willis said. “Or if you’re just a working person that works at 8 o’clock, you can’t get away from your job fast. Come in and have that blood work done immediately. Then you don’t have to worry about getting away from work on your lunch hour or 2 o’clock.  So we’re going to see.”

Willis advises participants to fast before any blood test.

“Your blood results are always better if you’ve been fasting 12 hours prior,” Willis said. All services are free to the public.

“We have found that the women in the home are definitely the decision makers, especially when it comes to health care,” Willis said. She hopes family members will make sure the men in their lives know about the event.

Eating healthily, less might lengthen lives, study says

(RNN) –  Healthy people who ate less food while getting essential nutrients improved their blood pressure, cholesterol and insulin resistance –   indicators associated with a longer life.

Researchers with the two-year National Institutes of Health study reached that conclusion. They studied 218 normal weight and slightly overweight young and middle-aged men and women who restricted their calories in comparison with 218 who ate their regular diets.

Encouraged by the results, published in the September 2015 Journal of Gerontology: Medical Sciences, a researcher added a note of caution.

“… We need to learn much more about health consequences of this type of intervention in healthy people before considering dietary recommendations,” said Dr. Richard J. Hodes of the NIH in a news release. “In the meantime, we do know that exercise and maintaining a healthy weight and diet can contribute to healthy aging.”

In laboratory animals, the researchers said, calorie restriction started in youth or early middle age usually increased life spans. In people, an equivalent trial would take decades.

“As we continue to try to unlock the mechanisms that make calorie-restricted animals live longer, we are certain that eating smaller portions of healthier food is a good idea for all of us,” said Dr. John O. Holloszy, the principal investigator at the study’s site at the Washington University School of Medicine.

Researchers had set out to test the effects of calorie restriction on the resting metabolic rate and body temperature, two factors proposed as affecting longevity.The study found a temporary, insignificant effect on resting metabolic rate and no effect on body temperature.

The calorie restriction participants lost an average of 10 percent of their body weight in the first year and maintained the weight over the second year. Researchers described that amount as “the largest sustained weight loss reported in any dietary trial in non-obese people.”

Compared to the control group, calorie restriction significantly lowered several predictors of cardiovascular disease, the NIH said:

  • decreased average blood pressure by 4 percent;

  • decreased total cholesterol by 6 percent;

  • increased levels of HDL (“good”) cholesterol;

  • caused a 47-percent reduction in levels of C-reactive protein, an inflammatory factor linked to cardiovascular disease;

  • markedly decreased insulin resistance, an indicator of diabetes risk; and

  • decreased T3, a marker of thyroid hormone activity, by more than 20 percent, while remaining within the normal range. Lower thyroid activity, the NIH said some studies suggest, may be associated with longer life span.

Although the study found no negative effects on mood (hunger-related symptoms), a few participants developed transient anemia and greater-than-expected decreases in bone density given their weight loss.

A researcher suggested a future study.

“It also would be useful to discover if calorie restriction over longer periods has additional effects on predictors of health in old age,” said Dr. Evan Hadley of the NIH, “and compare its effects with exercise-induced weight loss. “

Alanis Morissette Opens Up About Life After an Eating Disorder

(Photo: Michael Wells)

Aromatherapy. Yoga. Meditation. In 1995, no one would have thought Alanis Morissette would be so into such chilled-out activities. She is, after all, the creator of one of the best revenge fantasy breakup songs of all time, “You Oughta Know.” But now, 20 years later, the 41-year-old has found a different way to heal from life’s unpredictabilities. She begins every day by reading, listening to music, meditating, or writing—which is something she’s loved her entire life.

“I’ve been journaling since the moment I could write, writing poems and reading,” she tells Womens Health. “Since the second I could read, I’ve been obsessed. As a child, my parents set it up so we had to read 30 minutes a day. So that was a joy for me.”

Alanis doesn’t just find time to fit in the hobbies she enjoys—she builds her life around them. In fact, she has renovated her entire home to fit her lifestyle. She has a room for yoga and meditation and an entire wall for her essential oils. Each of these things contributes to a facet of the lifestyle she embraces and tries to project into the world.

“When I shop, I’m always shopping with this mindset of, ‘What would add to the home? What would symbolize what’s already happening in my heart?’” she says. “The idea of community, internationalism, service, connection, nurturance, and beauty—all of these things I highly value so much.” To see Alanis’ beautiful decor and healing space, check out this exclusive video tour of her home:

Alanis dealt with difficulties early in life, and in building this home and embarking on a spiritual journey, she is knocking down walls while building new, healthy boundaries at the same time.

“I’ve been so disassociated for most of my life, and it’s shown up in various forms like eating disorders and not having boundaries around having sex as a young person and just not being aware of boundaries and having a lot of mine be violated and not considered,” she says. “For me, the idea of building boundaries has become a huge part of my spiritual practice. With the mindfulness somatic practices, it’s really helped me stay in my body.”

Speaking of her body, taking care of it isn’t a new focus for Alanis. But practicing mindfulness, as well as healing from past wounds has become a main priority.

“The big question for me around eating-disorder recovery is, ‘What is sobriety with food?’ We know with alcohol, you just don’t drink it and don’t go to a bar. With heroin, you just don’t go near it. Whereas with food, you have to eat, so how can one go from, in my case, bingeing and purging, starving, overeating, the scale going up and down—how can I go from that to a ‘sober’ approach?”

Alanis’ recovery involved approaching food with a new mindset and thinking about the way it could not only heal her but provide her with the energy to continue doing the things she loves.

“I was raised on macaroni and cheese,” she says. “But I’ve noticed allergies that have gone away when I step away from dairy. I’ve noticed when I get the high-nutrient greens, I sleep better. There’s less moodiness. Food is entirely medicine to me. That doesn’t mean I’m just eating seeds and raspberries, although that’s fun, too, but it’s an integrative approach.”
