CARSON CITY, Nev. — Today, a group of women’s health experts from around the world visited Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center as part of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).
Participants from Kiribati, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan visited with Carson Tahoe Health physicians, nurses and staff to specifically learn more about the hospital’s approach to delivering superior healthcare to women.
As northern Nevada’s only Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum (LDRP) “rooming-in” department, and the state’s first “Baby-Friendly” designated hospital, the visit consisted primarily of a tour and discussion around delivering superior healthcare to expecting and new mothers.
“As a Baby Friendly hospital, Carson Tahoe Health has been recognized worldwide as a hospital designed to ensure proper mother/child bonding with every delivery,” said Debbie LeBalch, RN, MSN, Nurse Manager of Women & Children’s Services at Carson Tahoe who attended the tour today. “Today was an excellent opportunity to educate other healthcare leaders from around the globe, share best practices and discuss how the delivery of care can be improved upon for patients within their own systems.”
Baby Friendly designation is awarded only to facilities that adhere to top breastfeeding standards set by Baby-Friendly USA, Inc, a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Carson Tahoe is the only hospital in northern Nevada to receive this special designation.
