Many have heard of Fleshlight, a popular sex toy for men, but a new company is taking a different approach to the male masturbator.
On Friday Blewit launched an Indiegogo page. Though the gadget resembles the canister-style shape and method of similar toys, Blewit is marketing masturbation more like a gym workout.

Rather than implying the toy is solely for sexual pleasure, Blewit wants customers to think of the toy as a “trainer” for sex with a partner — in order to “stay hard” longer and improve self-confidence.
“Blewit is a patented product that was designed to perfectly simulate intercourse and enhance a user’s overall sexual health,” says the company’s CEO CT Shenk in a press release.

While it’s been proven that safe sex can be great for a person’s overall health, the health benefits of masturbation are not as reliably or universally proven.
Even if Blewit’s simulation feels more “real” than other masturbation methods or toys, consumers should judge marketing claims carefully, against reliable health research.
When asked what type of intercourse the toy was meant to simulate, Shenk told Mashable, “Blewit was designed to be discreet and non-sexually oriented, as well as simulate the sensations that intercourse of any type produces.” He added, “Our product is for people with penises regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.”
Still, the claim that Blewit simulates “any type” of intercourse seems far-reaching, given sex feels different based on type and individual, for example, vaginal-penile vs. anal-penile intercourse.
Blewit had reached $1,573 toward its total goal of $20,000 by the time of writing. There are 29 days left until the Indiegogo campaign expires.
